Others have used oatmeal or other fillers. a lot of he scaremongering about subsonic loads was pre trail boss i dont know the range your thinking of but you will need to know the range to the target very accurately(the drop is shocking), and in honesty I think subsonic 308 for fox is a 150m round max as a good sub load should group 2-3 inches at this range. I also use filler material (foam from an old rifle case) to avoid a flash over (SEE or secondary explosive effect). I use magnum primers and open the flash hole to 9/64. Lapua Virgin brass BR-2 Primer 11.0 Grain of Trail Boss 170 Grain Round point 30-30 bullet. Scott Wilson and I are going to test soon using our cans and will let you know. I found out that 10 grains of Trail boss with a 170 Grain Sierra 30-30 bullet is VERY accurate at 50 and 100 yards, sub MOA at 50 yards and MOA or a bit better at 100 yards. The 300 blackout (they say) is solving a lot of problems we have had with the case capacity issue. The guy on the stand mentioned that he heard that some have used 11 gr or so to get subsonic loads with. I am not the expert on this by any means and sub sonic shooting and reloading is touchy. Used the following Took LC Match brass and enlarged flashhole to 9/64' LR Mag primers, Trailboss 10.8g 220g RN Sierra 2180 2.810' COAL Remington 700 PSS Velocity as measured from Labrader - 2146 f/s Was expecting to see velocity around 1150 f/s. I bought a tub at the weekend at the show and was told that its a low density/high volume powder, apparently suitable for loading reduced powder loads and mainly used by the Country and Western underlever guys. Same principle I believe on the sub sonics as well as standard velocity rds, AS YOU KNOW. The heavier bullets do better with my 1/10. I could never get the heavier bullets to stabilize for accuracy and consistency with the 1/12. Personally I use Bullseye for subsonic loads with cast bullets. The lower bore friction means there's much less chance of sticking one in the bore, and they tend to be less finicky with respect to velocity variations. Since I have my Walker rifle with the Hart 20" 1/10 twist barrel, I now load the Sierra 180 grain BTHP with 9 grains of Red Dot.įactory load: Lapua sniper sub sonic 200 grain FMJBT On that note - cast bullets (lubed or powder coated) are far easier to work with for subsonic loads. Load: either 6 or 7 grains of Red Dot (depending on temperature). It shot about 1 moa accurate in Rem 700 VS 1/12 bbl. Heres a couple loads I came up with 308 Win 168gr Nosler BTHP, molyd Milsurp brass 17.0 gr Unique CCI 200 1900 fps This load calcs about 45K pressure on Quickload, and about 65 fill. Sent my buddy an email, here's his reply:ġ25 and 130 grain bullets worked best (most accurate) in my 18 or 20" barreled rifles with the 1/12 twist. Re: Subsonic 308 loads with Unique Ive played with Unique in the 308.
